Weather

Ireland has a mild, humid maritime climate. The weather is variable with rain, sun and wind. Summer is cool with temperatures around 20 degrees, while winter is mild with rarely below freezing. Rain is common all year round, so it is good to be prepared for all eventualities.

Language

Ireland has two official languages: Irish and English. Irish is a Celtic language that is closely related to Scottish Gaelic and Manx. In everyday life, as an ordinary visitor, you will not meet many Irish people who speak Irish. You can get by well with English, but the pronunciation can be perceived as peculiar.

Ireland's currency is EUR (Euro). Card payments are common, but it's always good to have some cash on hand for small purchases and markets. ATMs are available in many places in most cities. However, ATMs can be sparse in the countryside.

Pass

EU citizens do not need a visa to enter Ireland. A valid passport or national ID card is sufficient. Please note that Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, so a passport/ID card must always be carried even if you are travelling from another EU country. Passport and visa

As a Swedish citizen, you need a valid passport or national ID card to enter Ireland. A visa is not required for tourist or business trips for less than 90 days. As with all travel destinations, a 6-month validity is recommended for the passport. Consent may be required for children travelling alone or with one guardian. Weather and climate

Ireland, also known as the land of rainbows, has a mild, humid Atlantic climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are cool with temperatures reaching up to 20°C, while winters are mild with temperatures rarely falling below 0°C. Precipitation is evenly distributed throughout the year, so it is always a good idea to bring rain gear. During spring, the weather is mild and beautiful flowers begin to bloom thanks to almost daily rain. When it comes to clothing, it is best to dress in layers, as the weather can change quickly. Rain gear and waterproof shoes are a must.

In Ireland, internet connectivity is generally good, both in cities and in rural areas. Ireland is known as an IT paradise, with headquarters for companies such as Google. Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, cafes and restaurants. You can use your Swedish mobile phone in Ireland, but roaming charges may apply. Download offline maps and apps before your trip. Use Wi-Fi when possible to save mobile data.

Electricity

Ireland uses type G electrical sockets. The British standard for electricity is 240 volts and 50 hertz. You will need an adapter as a Swedish traveler, don't forget to pack it. Some hotels also have USB sockets.

Best travel period

The best time to visit Ireland is during the summer months, from May to September. During this period the weather is milder with longer days and more sunshine. In winter it is rarely cold but it is often damp and windy.

Before your trip to Ireland, don't forget your European Health Insurance Card! Make sure you have up-to-date basic vaccination coverage and supplement your home insurance with travel insurance. Language

In Ireland, the currency is the euro (€). Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, but it is a good idea to have some cash. Be careful in Dublin, where there may be scams on tourists: passersby on the street may approach you and ask for money for various reasons. Ignore them. Tips are appreciated and it is customary to leave around 10% in tips in restaurants and bars. Bus drivers also appreciate tips.
