Join us on an exciting journey to mysterious Transylvania. In addition to Peles and Dracula's castles, which surprise with their charm rather than with scary stories about vampires, we visit small cozy and colorful villages and experience exciting encounters with the locals. We taste the delicious but so far undiscovered Romanian wines, shop in charming alleys and explore the specialties of the local cuisine.
The adventure begins in Sibiu, where our charming Swedish-speaking guide welcomes us with delicious cherry liqueur and traditional Romanian pastries. Then we glide into our hotel in Sibiu, a short trip from the airport, ready to embrace the magic of Transylvania. A light lunch is served comfortably at the hotel just before we check in. In the afternoon, it's time to dive into Transylvania's culture during a guided city walk in Sibiu, also known as Hermannstadt, where the wings of history are clearly felt through our guide's captivating stories "The City of 1000 Eyes" and the German heritage of Transylvania is waiting to be discovered. We round off the day with a tasty welcome dinner at a local inn.
Lunch and dinner are included.
In the morning there is time to explore Sibiu’s charm, shops and local cuisine at your own pace. After lunch on your own we leave the city and stop in cozy villages where German and Romanian heritage merge through the centuries. A traditional dinner is served at a small inn owned by a Romanian family in the sheep herding village of Sibiel. Then our journey continues to Mühlbach where we stay for two nights.
Breakfast and dinner are included.
We start the day with a guided walk in Mühlbach, one of the seven castles that make up Transylvania. The prodigy Carl Filtsch, a student of Chopin and Liszt, lived here. Later, we travel to Alba Iulia, a place where history comes to life, from the days of the Roman Empire to the Habsburg era. After a lovely shared lunch, we continue towards the majestic mountains and authentic villages. We visit a small old farm in the mountains, where wool and carpets are washed with a "valtoare", a natural washing machine powered by the power of the streams. In the evening, we are back at the hotel, where dinner is served in the hotel's courtyard, next to the ancient wall dating back to the 14th century. In the same spirit, we are presented with a medieval knight show.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
We head towards Sighişoara, the city that will be our home for the next two nights. On the way there we stop at a rural church castle where we admire unique works of art in spider webs. We continue through Weinland and visit a winery where we get to taste delicious wines and charcuterie. Through colorful German-Saxon villages we arrive in medieval SIghisoara in the afternoon. A traditional light dinner in the form of soup in a bread bowl, followed by a delicious dessert is served in the house where Vlad Dracula is said to have been born. We stay in a small charming hotel in a heritage-listed house in the medieval citadel.
Breakfast and dinner are included.
Get ready to explore UNESCO-listed Sighişoara, or Schässburg as it is called by the German-speaking inhabitants, the birthplace of Dracula, a place straight out of a fairy tale. Our guide will lead us through the city’s fascinating history, from the Brothers Grimm to space rockets and tales of expeditions to the South Pole. The afternoon is free for your own adventures in this charming city, perhaps with a coffee in the sun or shopping in the cozy alleys.
Breakfast is included.
We travel on towards Dracula's Castle, our base for the next two nights, but first we visit an impressive church castle called Honigberg and learn about the everyday life and defense of the German-Saxon population through the centuries, but also about Charles XII's Swedish soldiers who passed through here in the 18th century. Then we explore the city of Brasov or Kronstadt, where vampire stories come to life and history mixes with legends. After a moment for lunch on your own, we visit the enigmatic Dracula's Castle and hear the true story behind the myths.
Breakfast is included.
Day 7 - Royal splendor and relaxation in nature
Today, Peles Castle awaits, a masterpiece nestled among the dramatic views of the Carpathian Mountains. We wander through the majestic halls of the castle, take a relaxing walk in the surrounding nature and let ourselves be impressed by the views of the cliffs. We find peace during a visit to an Orthodox monastery and learn more about the exciting rituals of the Byzantine tradition. Back at the hotel, we have time to pack, before a lovely farewell dinner.
Breakfast and dinner are included.
Our journey comes to an end as we leave Dracula's area and head towards the airport, through picturesque villages where different cultures meet in harmony: Hungarian-speaking, German-speaking and Romanian-speaking residents have lived together here for centuries. We fly back to Sweden, filled with memories to last a lifetime.
